The Light Bulb – Invention with 1,000 Steps

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Thomas Edison, who gave us the gift of the electric bulb, was called “too stupid to learn anything.” He was fired from his first two jobs and failed a thousand times before inventing the light bulb. During an interview, a reporter jokingly asked him, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” To which Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.” However counterintuitive it may seem, having the courage to fail and be laughed upon is required to be successful.

Example of true Courage

True courage is the commitment to begin without any guarantee of success.

A word of encouragement during a failure is worth more than an hour of praise after a success.

Choosing Failure over Success

Monday, May 26th, 2014

Would you ever consider choosing failure over success? I would. I’d rather be a failure at something I enjoy than a success at something I hate.

Flavor of Success

Monday, April 21st, 2014

I agree wholeheartedly with Truman Capote who said, “Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor. I find success particularly sweet whenever I have experienced initial failure that was followed by a moment of recognition and ended in success, which I like to attribute to my own clever intervention.”
